From March until May 2019, USPEaK provided sessions on Gender and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) to 6 TWE classes across Lebanon. The overall aim of the training sessions was to raise awareness with women participants around Gender equality and the prevention of GBV. The sessions tackled Gender (in) equality across the different communities, explored from the women’s own perspective. Exercises focused on practical steps that can be adopted by each participant, with the aim of reinforcing gender equality and the protection from GBV in their daily lives, with their families and within their communities. At the end of the sessions, the trainer shared hotline numbers of service providers (local organizations and case management agencies) working on GBV response, as well as the new Internal Security Forces hotline which directly responds to family violence in Lebanon. The women were encouraged to speak out and seek support if they – or someone they know – are subjected to GBV.
