Through our volunteers, we aim to create games that address the themes of the Spelling Bee Curriculum properly. The field is made of 5 groups where each group includes all the schools. They go to stations where they get introduced to the themes in different games. Some of the activities are:
- Peace Theme: signature on “we want to live in peace”, brainstorming words on “What does peace mean to you?” and handprints on a huge paper with the word “Peace”. Groups then discuss their ideas with the facilitator.
- Equality Theme: Rope pulling with nine students from one side and one student from the other side, then 8-2, 7-3, 6-4, 5-5 where we show that it should have equal opportunity and equal power.
- Values and Ethics: building pasta towers with fewer materials in each group to show how we need to have access to information. The other game is about communication where two students are seated back to back. One of them has a picture and describes it to the other student who draws it.
- Recreational Activities: Musical chair game but the students should seat everyone after we remove one of the chairs as a way to show cooperation.
- Trafficking: We could not find a game on trafficking so we created one on bullying based on labels where students show the worst way dealt with those labels and then an ideal way of dealing with those labeled people.
Five field days took place in 5 regions with the participation of all 10 finalists from each school.
